Church Burglar Caught On Camera Wanted In Maryland: Police

A thief stealing copper pipes is at large in Montgomery County after being caught on camera robbing a church in Chevy Chase, police say.

An alert was issued and photo released on Friday morning following an incident that was reported in April at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 5400 block of Western Avenue.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, on Tuesday, April 16, officers were called to the church to investigate a reported burglary after a man forced his way into the building and began cutting sections of copper piping.

Investigators say that the man then came across a construction crew that was going to renovate areas of the church. One of the construction workers was able to use his phone to film the suspect, who then left with the stolen property.

The photo was released by the department on Friday, May 10.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 50s with a trimmed beard and medium build. 

At the time he was caught on camera, he wearing a white construction safety helmet, a reflective yellow/orange vest, a purple t-shirt, gray gloves and carrying a black backpack.
